Lib Dems challenge Council over SEND demand

SEND Support Must Remain a Top Priority.

Liberal Democrats on Bracknell Forest Council have welcomed progress in improving support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), while recognising that significant challenges remain. The issue was discussed at a recent meeting of the Overview and Scrutiny Commission, where Liberal Democrat Councillor Mike Forster raised questions about whether the council can continue improving services while also responding to new national reforms and rising demand for SEND support.

Families across Bracknell deserve confidence that their children will receive the support they need, when they need it. Demand for SEND services continues to grow, and the council faces the challenge of delivering new specialist provision, including dedicated SEND schools, while maintaining service quality for existing families.

Liberal Democrats recognise the hard work of council staff and education professionals who are working under increasing pressure. However, progress must be measured not only by plans and targets but by the real experiences of children and parents.

We will continue to hold the administration to account through robust scrutiny, ensuring SEND improvement remains a priority. Every child should have the opportunity to thrive, achieve their potential and access the support they deserve. That commitment must remain at the heart of decision-making in Bracknell Forest.
